Description
Here, completely revised and updated and appreciably expanded, is the third edition of Outlines of Chemical Technology, a standard work that has occupied, ever since it was first published in 1965, a unique place in the literature on chemical engineering and technology in India.
The first edition was the outcome of a course given by the late Dr. Charles E. Dryden to students at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK), in the 1960s. The second edition resulted from a collaboration between Professor M. Gopala Rao of IITK and Marshall Sitting, a chemical engineer from the U.S. On loan to IITK, and found widespread use in the 1970s and 1980s.
Now, as the 1990s draw to a close and the new century, and indeed the new millennium approaches, the editors have produced this third edition through an intense revision involving careful updating of statistics in traditional areas, addition of information relating to both industrial expansion in India and changes in the world chemical situation, and Introduction of such new study areas as composite materials and industrial pollution control. A significant inclusion is a discussion on the application of the computer in the chemical industry. The third edition of this classic text and reference book continues to meet the requirement of the student, the teacher, and the professional.
